South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR) Lt. Michael Paul Thomas of Beaufort recently graduated from the FBI National Academy in Quantico, VA.

"It is an incredible honor to be invited to attend the National FBI Academy," said SCDNR Law Enforcement Major Jamie Landrum. "The FBI allows less than 1 percent of law enforcement leaders from around the world to attend. We are very proud of Lt. Thomas for being selected and congratulate him on his recent graduation."

Thomas attended the 273rd session of the FBI National Academy. The FBI National Academy is a 10-week course covering a variety of leadership topics. The National Academy covered subjects such as Contemporary Issues in Law Enforcement Leadership, Essentials for Law Enforcement Leaders, Media Relations, Behavioral Science and Counter Terrorism.

The National FBI Academy also features a physical fitness component, which culminates in a 6.3-mile run and obstacle course, known as the Yellow Brick Road, which fulfills the physical fitness portion.

Thomas, who is the lieutenant for the coastal region, has served SCDNR as a law enforcement officer for 18 years. He has dedicated his career to protecting the natural resources of South Carolina and looks to move forward with knowledgeable and dedicated law enforcement leadership.

"I want to thank SCDNR for having the confidence in me and allowing me to attend the FBI National Academy," Thomas said. "I also want to thank my family for the support they provided during my time at the training. I was honored to be accepted and I proud to say I accomplished the course in its entirety. Everything I have learned and the contacts I have made will be indispensable during the remainder of my career."
